Minneapolis Sculpture Garden

SculpturePark-2

Frank Gehry’s work here in 1986–the Standing Glass Fish has become a beloved icon in the Minneapolis’ cultural life. The figure of the fish—-a fond remembrance of the giant carp his Jewish grandmother would leave swimming in the bathtub each week to use for her Friday-night gefilte fish—has been a recurring motif in Gehry’s work. He has used it for his whimsical lamps, in the design for a conference room, and as a notational element in his architectural drawings.  Source

Spoonbridge and Cherry, 1985-1988

Created by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen, the complex fabrication of the 5,800 pound spoon and 1,200 pound cherry was carried out at two shipbuilding yards in New England. The sculpture has become a beloved icon in the Garden, whether glaceed with snow in the Minnesota winters or gleaming in the warmer months, with water flowing over the surface of the cherry and a fine mist rising from its stem.  Source

M.S. River Rouge Cruise

RRcruise09After weeks and weeks of planning, we finally did it. After the disappointing attempt two weeks ago, we finally sailed across the Winnipeg rivers(Assiniboine River and Red River) aboard the M.S. River Rouge. I was extremely excited to take pictures of downtown Winnipeg from the river and here are the results. Also, note that I didn’t bother to take portraits that day because we had lots of portrait pictures from two weeks ago because at that time the diesel engine of the cruise ship was broken and those were the only pictures I could take. Please comment and let me know what you think. Enjoy! 😀

Manila View from Antipolo

Antipolo01

How I wish I could go back and redo most of my night landscape shots. hahahah. This shot has a lot of potential. If it wasn’t for the smog in Manila and/or my amateur skills, it could have been an awesome shot. Nonetheless, I think the picture looks pretty good.

Angono Rooftop

angono powerline01This is the current view from the rooftop of my Grandmother’s house. It used to be a lot different when I was younger. Back then, we used to go up here all the time to watch the Angono fiestas and pick fruit from the neighbor’s santol tree. The roof was made of  steel and plastic(for skylight). We would always be scared of stepping on to the plastic roof  because of the “incident” with kuya mel. My cousins would know what I am talking about.  hahahaha!!!

I remember running around here and the roof would screech so loud that “Inang” (my grandma) would be so mad at us. Now that my cousins and I are A LOT BIGGER, this roof would collapse if all of us would even try to climb up here at once, never mind walking or running around.

angono roof entrance01Above is the entrance to the rooftop. I believe everyone has a great memory of this roof. It goes way back to my mom’s early years. She would tell us stories about how she used to sneak out at night, climb down the roof and go to her parties.

Now, no one goes up the rooftop for fun anymore. Tita Bebe, Inang and Sangko would go up once in a while to hang their laundry and that’s it. I miss the old times. I miss the carelessness of my childhood.  I miss the joy rooftop brings.

People’s Park

Old PTA grounds, which used to host athletic meets and sports events in the city, has just been turned into a People’s Park, where one can find a collection of tropical rainforest trees or enjoy a fantasy-themed park with the children, free of charge.

The 71-million peso development of the PTA Park, which started in July 2006, is one of the flagship projects of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte. “The park will become a landmark of Davao city in the future,” said Engr. Elisa Madrazo, head of the Park’s project management office.
